Prasat Kampong Preah – Ancient Khmer Temple in Kampong Chhnang

Prasat Kampong Preah, located in Chhnuk Tru Commune, Boribo District, just eight kilometers from Kampong Chhnang town, offers visitors a rare glimpse into Cambodia’s early temple architecture. A second structure stands in moderate condition, while the third survives only as an excavated foundation pit, giving visitors the chance to study the structural base of such monuments.

Scholars believe these temples date back to the pre-Angkorian or early Angkorian era, representing a transitional stage in Khmer architecture when brick masonry and sandstone detailing were central materials. Though modest in size, their precise alignment reflects both spiritual symbolism and the architectural experimentation that later culminated in the grandeur of Angkor.

The Pagoda Connection
