Cambodia Golf & Country Club – Kampong Speu

Kampong Speu's Golf ClubCambodia Golf & Country Club – Premier Golf and Leisure

Located in Kampong Speu Province, about 35 kilometers west of Phnom Penh, the Cambodia Golf & Country Club holds the distinction of being the first international-standard golf course in the country, established in the late 1990s.

Spanning 120 hectares of picturesque countryside, the club offers a retreat where sport meets tranquility.

Surrounded by sugar palm trees, rice paddies, and rolling fields, the course provides a setting that feels both distinctly Cambodian and internationally refined.

Over the years, it has become a favorite destination for golfers seeking a relaxing escape close to the capital.

Course Layout and Design

The course is an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout stretching over 7,000 yards, carefully designed to balance natural beauty with technical challenge. It was developed by Japanese and Taiwanese architects, including Seiichi Inoue, whose vision emphasized harmony with the local landscape.

The front nine holes are characterized by wide fairways lined with towering sugar palms, making for a scenic and relatively forgiving start to the game. In contrast, the back nine introduces more demanding features, with rolling hills, strategically placed sand bunkers, and striking water hazards. Among the highlights is an island green that tests precision and adds drama to the round. This thoughtful design ensures that both beginners and seasoned golfers will find the course engaging and rewarding.

Facilities and Amenities

The elegant French-style clubhouse serves as the heart of the resort, offering comfort and leisure after a day on the course. Visitors can enjoy a restaurant that serves both Asian and Western cuisine, catering to a range of tastes.

A well-stocked pro shop provides golfing essentials, while non-golfing companions can make use of the swimming pool and tennis courts. Spacious lounges offer a relaxed atmosphere for winding down, socializing, or simply taking in the countryside views.

Accessibility and Affordability

One of the strengths of the Cambodia Golf & Country Club is its accessibility. Located just a short drive from Phnom Penh, it is an ideal option for a day trip away from the city’s hustle and bustle. Green fees are affordable, ranging between USD 38 and 48, making it one of the more budget-friendly international-standard courses in Southeast Asia. Optional buggy rentals are available, and caddie service is mandatory, ensuring that every golfer has assistance and guidance throughout their game.

Cultural and Recreational Significance

Beyond its role as a sporting venue, the club holds symbolic significance as Cambodia’s first international golf course. Its establishment in the post-1990s era marked a step toward modernization and global integration for the country. At the same time, the course remains deeply tied to its rural surroundings.

The views of nearby villages, rice fields, and palm groves allow visitors to experience Cambodia’s countryside while enjoying a world-class sporting activity. For many, the Cambodia Golf & Country Club represents not only a place to play golf but also a reflection of the nation’s evolving identity.
