Mondulkiri’s Iconic Waterfall and Scenic Retreat

Bou Sra Waterfall located in Pich Chenda District, approximately 43 kilometers northeast of Sen Monorom, the capital of Mondulkiri Province, Cambodia. 

Bou Sra Waterfall (also spelled Busra) is widely regarded as the most beautiful and iconic waterfall in Mondulkiri. Known for its three-tiered cascade, scenic surroundings, and cultural richness, Bou Sra is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and photographers alike.

The Three Stages of Bou Sra Waterfall

First Stage: Height: 8-12 meters (rainy season), width: 15 meters (rainy season), 10-15 meters (dry season) this tier is the most accessible and often used for bathing and picnicking.

Second Stage: (150 meters downstream), height: 15-20 meters (rainy season), 18-25 meters (dry season) width: 20 meters (rainy season), 13 meters (dry season), offers a dramatic drop into a gorge, providing stunning photo opportunities.

Third Stage: Known for its high-speed flow and remote location deep in the forest, not accessible to the public due to the lack of marked trails and presence of dangerous wildlife.

The first stage of the falls forms calm pools that are ideal for swimming and bathing, offering visitors a refreshing break in the cool, clear waters. Shady areas nearby make this part of the site especially popular for family picnics and group gatherings, where people can relax and enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings.

The second stage of Bou Sra is a dream for photographers, presenting sweeping panoramic views of the gorge. The dramatic scenery captures the raw beauty and power of the waterfall, making it one of the most photographed natural attractions in Mondulkiri.

Best Time to Visit 

From May to October, during the rainy season, Bou Sra is at its most spectacular, with the falls expanding to their widest and most powerful state. The sheer volume of water creates a breathtaking natural display, making this the best time for those who want to witness the waterfall in full force.

Between November and April, the dry season brings a gentler flow of water, but it also makes the area more accessible. Trails are easier to navigate, and the calmer pools provide safer conditions for swimming and hiking, offering a more relaxed experience for families and casual explorers.
