Cha Ong Waterfall – Ratanakiri
Located just 2 kilometers west of Banlung, the capital of Ratanakiri Province, Cha Ong Waterfall is one of the region’s most striking and accessible natural attractions. Nestled in the forested area of Ou Chum Commune and named after a nearby Kreung hill tribe village, the site is loved for its dramatic 25-meter drop and its unique cave viewpoint.
Natural Beauty & Experience
Fed by streams from Phnom Eysei Patamak (Phnom Svay), the waterfall plunges from the upper level down a sheer cliff to a rocky base below.
Its most captivating feature is the spacious cave behind the cascade, where visitors can sit and admire the curtain of water from within, a rare and immersive perspective. At the base, the stream flows gently over large boulders, creating natural seating areas perfect for picnics and relaxation amid the cool spray.
Things to See & Do
The highlight of Cha Ong is the cave viewpoint, which allows visitors to experience the falls from behind the curtain of water. Shady spots and flat rocks around the base make it a popular place for picnicking with family or friends. Gentle trails through the surrounding forest provide opportunities for nature walks, while the nearby Kreung community adds a cultural dimension, offering insights into the traditions tied to the area.
Accessibility
Cha Ong is one of the easiest natural sites to visit in Ratanakiri. Located just a short ride from Banlung by tuk-tuk, motorbike, or car, it requires only a simple walk or slope descent from the entrance to reach the base and cave area.
