Prek Treng Beach – Sihanoukville
Prek Treng Beach – Pristine Shores and Relaxation
Located about 7 kilometers northeast of the Sihanoukville ferry port, Prek Treng Beach (also known as Hun Sen Beach) is one of the city’s most secluded coastal spots.
Fringed with casuarina trees and dotted with traditional Khmer-style open pavilions, the beach offers a peaceful, almost untouched atmosphere far removed from the busier stretches of coastline.
Natural Setting
Prek Treng is a long, narrow crescent of sand with occasional rocky patches and warm, shallow waters perfect for a quiet paddle.
The air is fresh, the setting serene, and the lack of urban noise makes it an ideal retreat for travelers seeking solitude. Because there are no restaurants, guesthouses, or beach vendors, the area remains one of the few places in Sihanoukville where you can still experience raw, undeveloped coastal beauty.
Seclusion & Atmosphere
The beach is often completely deserted, offering a rare sense of privacy in an otherwise fast-developing coastal city. Its distance from the main tourist hubs makes it a favorite among those who prefer peace and quiet. Visitors can bring hammocks, mats, or a picnic to make the most of the natural surroundings.
Development & Future Changes
While Prek Treng currently feels untouched, a nearby development project is expected to change the character of the beach in the near future. For now, however, it remains a rare opportunity to enjoy Cambodia’s coastline as it once was calm, natural, and uncrowded.
Getting There & Visitor Tips
To reach Prek Treng, follow Hun Sen Beach Drive north, passing the port area. The beach lies on the left just after the first bridge but before the oil port. The road is straightforward, and the journey from downtown Sihanoukville takes only about 15–20 minutes by tuk-tuk or motorbike.
Since there are no amenities, travelers should bring their own water, snacks, sunscreen, and any other essentials. A hat or umbrella is also useful, as shade is limited to the casuarina trees and scattered pavilions.
