Phnom Santuk – Sacred Hill and Panoramic Views 

Located in Ko Koh Village, Santuk District, about 17 km south of Kampong Thom town, Phnom Santuk is one of the most important cultural and natural sites in the province. 

The site is made up of four mountains, Phnom Srah Kmao (Phnom Tbeng), Phnom Penhum (Phnom Kraper), Phnom Champa, and Phnom Santuk, and is revered for its religious monuments, natural scenery, and deep historical significance.

Historical & Religious Heritage

Buddha Carvings: On the mountaintop, visitors can admire numerous Buddha statues carved directly from the mountain rock, including three reclining Buddhas, each more than 10 meters long, symbolizing the Buddha’s attainment of Nirvana.

Prasat Touch: A pyramid-shaped sandstone temple, about three meters high with three levels, stands beside an ancient wooden temple (now rebuilt in cement). A rectangular pond (10 × 4 m) nearby adds to the sacred atmosphere.

Preah Bat Chann Tuk Statue: Carved into natural rock, this sculpture depicts the sacred footprints of the Buddha, drawing pilgrims who come to pay homage.

Other Sculptures: Scattered across the summit are smaller stone carvings and sacred images, many believed to date back to the reign of King Preah Ponhea Dharma Reacha (1474–1494), showing centuries of religious devotion.

Cultural Significance

Phnom Santuk has long been a pilgrimage site. Locals recount that in ancient times, visitors would drop coins into a small hole between two symbolic stones called Chan Dare (Chan Chare). The coins would produce a soft, bird-like sound, believed to bring happiness and blessings. This tradition reflects the mountain’s enduring role as a site of spirituality, offering both prayer and hope.
