Toul Baray Andet, also called Baray Andet Resort, is located in Baray Village, Baray Commune, Prey Veng District, about 3 kilometers west of Prey Veng provincial town. Set on a plain of elevated ground and shaded by large trees, the site offers both a natural retreat and a deeply spiritual setting.

History & Cultural Significance

Toul Baray Andet has long been regarded as one of Prey Veng’s most sacred sites. Local belief holds that it is the gathering place of powerful spirits, giving it a reputation as a Bang Bot, or spiritual center. For centuries, villagers have come here to swear oaths, offer prayers, and seek blessings for health, happiness, and good harvests. 

Farmers traditionally prayed at this site for rainfall to nourish their rice fields, linking it directly to the agricultural prosperity of the region. On Buddhist holy days, or Silas days, the sound of Pinpeat music fills the air as locals honor Neak Ta, the ancestral guardian spirit deeply rooted in Khmer tradition.

Symbolism

The site is closely tied to Neak Ta worship, with Neak Ta revered as a protector of the land and its people. Oaths sworn at Toul Baray Andet symbolize truth, justice, and moral integrity, as it is widely believed that breaking a vow in such a sacred place invites misfortune.

Each year, just before Khmer New Year, Toul Baray Andet becomes the starting point for the Neak Ta procession to Ba Phnom, one of Cambodia’s most important spiritual and historical sites. This annual ritual reinforces the site’s role as both a local spiritual hub and a bridge to greater Khmer traditions.

Beyond its cultural and religious significance, Toul Baray Andet is also admired for its tranquil natural environment. The high plain is surrounded by large, shady trees, creating a peaceful retreat where visitors can rest, reflect, or take part in community gatherings.
