Phnom Tbeng Meanchey – Sacred Mountain in Preah Vihear
Located about 20–25 kilometers west of Preah Vihear City, Phnom Tbeng Meanchey is a sacred mountain rising above the plains of northern Cambodia. Blending spirituality, nature, and community life, it offers visitors a peaceful escape and an authentic glimpse into local culture.
Highlights of Phnom Tbeng
One of the most striking attractions is Wat Tang You (Rock Top Pagoda), a dramatic shrine perched atop a massive rock formation. From here, visitors are treated to sweeping views across the province, making it one of the most photographed spots on the mountain.
The mountain is also known for its meditation retreats and forest temples, where monks and lay practitioners come to seek solitude. These shrines, tucked into the greenery, reflect the deep spiritual significance of Phnom Tbeng and its role as a retreat for reflection and worship.
During the rainy season, seasonal waterfalls cascade down the slopes, adding refreshing beauty to the landscape. These are best seen between June and October, when streams and rivers flow at their strongest.
The mountain lies within a Protected Forest, where hiking trails lead through areas rich in biodiversity. Wildlife, dense vegetation, and serene forest paths make the journey as rewarding as the destination.
