Founded in 1992, Artisans Angkor is more than just a cultural workshop, it is a movement dedicated to reviving traditional Khmer arts and crafts while creating sustainable jobs for young artisans from rural Cambodia. 

What began as a small vocational training project has since grown into a semi-public social enterprise, now internationally recognized as a model for combining heritage preservation with economic development.

Living Arts in Action

Visitors to Artisans Angkor can witness the incredible skill and patience required for traditional crafts such as stone and wood carving, silk weaving, lacquerware, and classical painting. 

Each creation reflects centuries-old techniques passed down through generations, carefully adapted for the modern world. Watching the artisans at work provides not only a cultural insight but also a deeper appreciation for the artistry that helped shape Cambodia’s identity.

The Silk Farm Experience

One of the highlights of Artisans Angkor is its Silk Farm, located just outside Siem Reap. Guests can take a free guided tour that follows the fascinating journey of silk production from the cultivation of mulberry trees and silkworm rearing to the spinning, dyeing, and weaving of vibrant fabrics. This immersive experience reveals the delicate balance of tradition and innovation that keeps this ancient craft alive in Cambodia today.

Social Impact & Community Empowerment

Artisans Angkor is not only about preserving heritage but also about empowering people. By offering stable employment, fair wages, and training opportunities, the project helps young Cambodians, especially from rural areas, build sustainable futures. 

Every purchase made at their workshops or boutiques directly supports these artisans and their communities, making each handcrafted piece both a cultural treasure and a tool for social progress.

Temple Restoration & Preservation

Beyond the workshops, the artisans of Artisans Angkor also contribute to the restoration of Cambodia’s most iconic monuments. Their skills are vital in carefully repairing and recreating sculptures that have been lost or damaged over centuries at the temples of Angkor. This work connects the present generation of craftsmen to their ancestors, ensuring that Cambodia’s timeless heritage continues to inspire the world.
