Tour Highlights

Tour Itinerary

Day 1| Siem Reap Majestic Temples Tour

Your guide will pick you up at 8:00 AM from your hotel to begin your journey through the heart of the ancient Khmer Empire.

Start with a visit to the majestic Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument and a symbol of Cambodia. Next, explore Angkor Thom, the ancient royal city, where you’ll discover the enigmatic Bayon Temple, famous for its 200 smiling stone faces.

Finally, visit the atmospheric Ta Prohm, often called the jungle temple, where massive tree roots intertwine with centuries-old ruins, a site made famous by the film Tomb Raider.

After the tour, you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.

Duration: Approximately 5–6 hours

Day 2| Journey to Kampong Thom via a Floating Village

As you journey toward Kampong Thom, take a memorable detour to explore the Floating Village of Kampong Khleang, one of the largest and most authentic stilted communities on Tonle Sap Lake.

Unlike more touristic villages, Kampong Khleang offers a genuine glimpse into the daily life of locals who live in harmony with the rhythms of the lake. Depending on the season, you’ll see houses rising high above the floodwaters on stilts or boats gliding between homes during the rainy season.

After your visit, continue toward Kampong Thom with a stop at the Kampong Kdei Bridge, also known as Spean Praptos. This remarkable laterite and stone bridge, built during the Angkorian era (likely under Jayavarman VII in the 12th century), is one of the oldest and longest surviving stone-arch bridges in Southeast Asia.

It’s a testament to the advanced engineering skills of the Khmer Empire and a perfect photo opportunity for history enthusiasts.

After exploring the Kampong Kdei Bridge, continue your journey to Kampong Thom, a quiet provincial town that serves as the gateway to one of Cambodia’s most important archaeological sites.

Upon arrival, head directly to your local homestay near Sambor Prei Kuk, where you’ll experience authentic rural Cambodian hospitality. Nestled among rice fields and traditional wooden houses, the homestay offers a peaceful retreat and a chance to engage with local life. Enjoy a home-cooked dinner made with fresh local ingredients, and perhaps take a stroll around the village to observe the sunset and the gentle pace of daily life.

Day 3| Explore Sambo Prei Kuk and set off to Phnom Penh

Start your day with a traditional breakfast at your homestay before setting out to explore Sambor Prei Kuk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Cambodia’s most significant yet lesser-known archaeological treasures.

Dating back to the pre-Angkorian Chenla period (7th century), this ancient city features over 100 brick temples scattered across a forested area, many adorned with intricate carvings and surrounded by tranquil walking paths.

A local guide can enhance your visit, sharing insights into the site’s unique architecture and its role as a precursor to the great temples of Angkor.

After your exploration, return to the homestay for lunch or pack a picnic to enjoy on the road. Then begin the drive south toward Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s vibrant capital. The journey takes approximately 4–5 hours, offering scenic views of rural landscapes and glimpses of everyday life and taste authentic deep-fried tarantulas along the way.

Arrive in Phnom Penh in the late afternoon or early evening and check in to your accommodation.

Day 4| Phnom Penh City Tour

Spend the day exploring Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s dynamic capital, with a guided tour that brings you face-to-face with both the beauty and the tragedy of the country’s history.

Begin your day with a visit to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, a deeply moving site where thousands of victims of the Khmer Rouge regime were laid to rest. A memorial stupa stands in quiet remembrance, and an audio guide or local expert can help you better understand the painful history.

Next, continue to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21), a former high school turned prison during the Khmer Rouge era. The museum is a powerful and sobering place, offering insight into Cambodia’s darkest chapter.

In the afternoon, shift to a more uplifting part of the city’s heritage with a visit to the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda. These beautifully preserved grounds are home to the royal residence, stunning Khmer architecture, and priceless national treasures.

Drop off at your hotel end the services!

Phnom Krom and Tonle Sap ViewTrapeang Prasat – A Glimpse of Cambodia’s Rural Heartland

Trapeang Prasat is a small town and district in Oddar Meanchey Province, northern Cambodia, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into rural life far from the more frequented tourist destinations.

Nestled amid forests, wetlands, and fertile agricultural lands, the area serves as a gateway to Cambodia’s natural and cultural heritage. Its peaceful surroundings, combined with the charm of local villages, make it an ideal stop for travelers seeking both tranquility and exploration.

Natural Features

The landscape around Trapeang Prasat is a mix of forested hills, wetlands, and sprawling farmland, providing habitat for a rich variety of wildlife and supporting traditional farming communities. The rustic beauty of the countryside is complemented by quiet village life, where visitors can watch farmers tending rice paddies, observe local waterfowl in wetlands, and enjoy the serene rhythm of rural Cambodia.

Activities & Experiences

History & Archaeology: Visitors can explore smaller Angkorian-era temples, such as Prasat Khnar, which highlight the intricate architecture and artistry of the Khmer Empire. The elevated locations of these sites offer panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, blending history, scenic hiking, and photography opportunities.

Birdwatching & Wildlife: The nearby Sorng Rokha Vorn Wildlife Sanctuary serves as a refuge for diverse species of birds, mammals, and reptiles. Nature enthusiasts and eco-tourists can take guided tours or quietly observe wildlife, gaining insight into Cambodia’s rich biodiversity while contributing to conservation efforts.

Nature & Relaxation: About an hour’s drive from Trapeang Prasat lies Champei Waterfall, surrounded by dense forest and vibrant greenery. The cascading waters offer a perfect spot for photography, picnics, or simply unwinding in a peaceful, natural environment, allowing visitors to connect with the serene landscapes of northern Cambodia.

Cultural Encounters: The villages around Trapeang Prasat provide an immersive cultural experience. Travelers can engage with locals, learn traditional farming methods, participate in daily activities, and witness age-old community practices, creating meaningful interactions and a deeper appreciation for Cambodia’s rural way of life.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season (November–April) provides the most comfortable weather and easier road access for exploring temples, hiking, and wildlife observation. During the rainy season (May–October), the countryside transforms into lush, vibrant greenery, enhancing the beauty of waterfalls and wetlands, though travel can be more challenging.

Getting There

Trapeang Prasat is accessible by car or motorbike, but rustic and bumpy roads make a sturdy vehicle essential, particularly in the rainy season. Accommodation within the town is limited, so many travelers base themselves in Samraong or Anlong Veng, using day trips to explore Trapeang Prasat and its surrounding natural and cultural attractions.

Anlong Veng – Oddar Meanchey

Anlong Veng – Oddar Meanchey

Khmer RoughAnlong Veng, located in the Dângrêk Mountains near the Thai border in Oddar Meanchey Province, holds a pivotal place in Cambodia’s modern history.

Once the last stronghold of the Khmer Rouge until their surrender in the late 1990s, the town today serves as both a site of remembrance and a symbol of reconciliation.

Visitors can explore historical landmarks tied to the movement’s leaders, while also witnessing the region’s ongoing transformation toward peace and regeneration.

Historical & Cultural Significance

Anlong Veng carries a heavy historical legacy as the last stronghold of the Khmer Rouge. The site of Pol Pot’s grave and cremation serves as a simple memorial, offering a glimpse into the final chapter of the movement and its leader’s life.

Nearby, Ta Mok’s House overlooks a manmade lake and preserves remnants of the past. Murals and artifacts inside the former military commander’s residence reveal traces of his rule and the community he once controlled.

Son Sen’s gravesite, where another key Khmer Rouge figure and his family are buried, adds to the region’s poignant reminders of a dark period in Cambodia’s history.

Since 2015, the Anlong Veng Peace Center has operated from Ta Mok’s former headquarters. Established by DC-Cam, the center documents the Khmer Rouge era while fostering dialogue, education, and healing.

Natural & Social Transformation

Today, Anlong Veng is envisioned not only as a place of remembrance but also as a “city of peace, reconciliation, and regeneration.” Initiatives seek to restore landscapes damaged by deforestation and slash-and-burn farming while supporting community rebuilding and cultural renewal. This balance of memory and restoration gives Anlong Veng a unique role in Cambodia’s ongoing journey of healing.

Activities & Experiences

Visitors can explore key Khmer Rouge heritage sites, guided by local narratives that bring personal perspective to the history. At the Peace Center, travelers are invited to engage with educational exhibits and community-led programs that promote reflection and understanding.

The surrounding mountain landscapes, slowly recovering from decades of damage, provide opportunities for hiking and quiet contemplation. Equally important is the chance to connect with local communities. Many residents are actively working to move beyond past traumas through sustainable livelihoods and cultural revival.

Getting There

Anlong Veng lies about 125 kilometers north of Siem Reap, a drive of roughly three to four hours along National Road 67. For travelers coming from Thailand, the Choam/Chong Sa-Ngam border crossing is just 13 kilometers away.

Accommodation in town is basic, with a selection of small guesthouses. Many visitors choose to combine their trip with excursions to nearby destinations such as Preah Vihear or Trapeang Prasat, creating a broader journey through Cambodia’s northern heritage sites.

Cambodia Golf & Country Club – Kampong Speu

Cambodia Golf & Country Club – Kampong Speu

Kampong Speu's Golf ClubCambodia Golf & Country Club – Premier Golf and Leisure

Located in Kampong Speu Province, about 35 kilometers west of Phnom Penh, the Cambodia Golf & Country Club holds the distinction of being the first international-standard golf course in the country, established in the late 1990s.

Spanning 120 hectares of picturesque countryside, the club offers a retreat where sport meets tranquility.

Surrounded by sugar palm trees, rice paddies, and rolling fields, the course provides a setting that feels both distinctly Cambodian and internationally refined.

Over the years, it has become a favorite destination for golfers seeking a relaxing escape close to the capital.

Course Layout and Design

The course is an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout stretching over 7,000 yards, carefully designed to balance natural beauty with technical challenge. It was developed by Japanese and Taiwanese architects, including Seiichi Inoue, whose vision emphasized harmony with the local landscape.

The front nine holes are characterized by wide fairways lined with towering sugar palms, making for a scenic and relatively forgiving start to the game. In contrast, the back nine introduces more demanding features, with rolling hills, strategically placed sand bunkers, and striking water hazards. Among the highlights is an island green that tests precision and adds drama to the round. This thoughtful design ensures that both beginners and seasoned golfers will find the course engaging and rewarding.

Facilities and Amenities

The elegant French-style clubhouse serves as the heart of the resort, offering comfort and leisure after a day on the course. Visitors can enjoy a restaurant that serves both Asian and Western cuisine, catering to a range of tastes.

A well-stocked pro shop provides golfing essentials, while non-golfing companions can make use of the swimming pool and tennis courts. Spacious lounges offer a relaxed atmosphere for winding down, socializing, or simply taking in the countryside views.

Accessibility and Affordability

One of the strengths of the Cambodia Golf & Country Club is its accessibility. Located just a short drive from Phnom Penh, it is an ideal option for a day trip away from the city’s hustle and bustle. Green fees are affordable, ranging between USD 38 and 48, making it one of the more budget-friendly international-standard courses in Southeast Asia. Optional buggy rentals are available, and caddie service is mandatory, ensuring that every golfer has assistance and guidance throughout their game.

Cultural and Recreational Significance

Beyond its role as a sporting venue, the club holds symbolic significance as Cambodia’s first international golf course. Its establishment in the post-1990s era marked a step toward modernization and global integration for the country. At the same time, the course remains deeply tied to its rural surroundings.

The views of nearby villages, rice fields, and palm groves allow visitors to experience Cambodia’s countryside while enjoying a world-class sporting activity. For many, the Cambodia Golf & Country Club represents not only a place to play golf but also a reflection of the nation’s evolving identity.

The Norak Borey Museum, located in Chambok Village along National Road 4 in Kampong Speu Province, is a privately owned cultural institution dedicated to safeguarding Cambodia’s historical and artistic legacy.

Founded and managed by a local family, the museum reflects deep passion and commitment to preserving the nation’s past for future generations.

Unlike large state-run institutions, this museum offers a more personal and community-rooted atmosphere, giving visitors a chance to connect with Cambodian heritage in a meaningful way.

Collection and Exhibits

The museum houses thousands of artifacts that span from prehistoric times to the modern day, making it one of the most diverse private collections in the region.

Among the most striking pieces are ancient stone and wooden sculptures depicting deities, guardians, and historical figures, which provide insight into both religious devotion and political authority through the ages.

Everyday items such as clay pots, copperware, and household tools trace the rhythms of Cambodian daily life, while intricately carved furniture made from massive logs showcases the skill and creativity of Khmer artisans.

Religious art is also a central feature, with statues of the Buddha, King Jayavarman VII, and protective figures illustrating Cambodia’s spiritual traditions. Each artifact tells a story of resilience, creativity, and continuity across centuries of Khmer history.

Cultural Significance

Beyond its role as a repository of objects, the Norak Borey Museum functions as a cultural archive and tribute to Khmer identity. In a country where many artifacts have been lost to war, looting, or neglect, the museum’s collection represents a powerful act of preservation.

By protecting and sharing heritage outside of state institutions, the museum ensures that valuable pieces of Cambodian history remain accessible to the public. For visitors, it is more than an exhibition, it is an invitation to reflect on Cambodia’s artistic and spiritual evolution in an intimate, family-run setting that emphasizes community values.

Visiting the Museum

Visiting the Norak Borey Museum is not just about viewing artifacts, but about experiencing Cambodia’s cultural depth in a personal and authentic way. The museum offers a closer, more interactive encounter than larger national museums, making it an excellent stop for those exploring Kampong Speu Province or traveling along National Road 4 between Phnom Penh and the coastal regions.

For travelers interested in history, religion, or traditional craftsmanship, it is a rewarding destination that combines education, preservation, and heartfelt local hospitality.

Phnom Aural – Kampong Speu

Phnom Aural – Kampong Speu

Phnom Aural Kampong SpeuPhnom Aural – Cambodia’s Highest Peak

Rising to about 1,813 meters (5,948 feet), Phnom Aural is the tallest mountain in Cambodia and a commanding landmark of the eastern Cardamom Mountains in Kampong Speu Province.

Its vast sanctuary extends into Kampong Chhnang and Pursat Provinces, protecting one of the country’s most important natural strongholds. For both adventurers and conservationists, Phnom Aural represents a meeting point of wilderness, biodiversity, and cultural heritage.

Phnom Aural Wildlife Sanctuary

The Phnom Aural Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1993 by royal decree, covers roughly 2,545 km² and is classified as an IUCN Category IV protected area. It safeguards a mosaic of ecosystems ranging from lowland evergreen forest and bamboo groves to misty montane woodlands and high-altitude grasslands.

This variety of habitats provides a refuge for countless species, some of which are found nowhere else in the world. Despite persistent threats from illegal logging, encroachment, and land speculation, especially on its southern and eastern edges, the sanctuary remains a vital conservation area and a symbol of Cambodia’s natural heritage.

Biodiversity & Conservation Significance

Phnom Aural is internationally recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA), harboring rare and restricted-range species such as the Chestnut-headed Partridge and the Cambodian Laughingthrush, both of which are conservation priorities. Over 200 species of birds have been recorded, making it one of the country’s premier birdwatching destinations.

The sanctuary also shelters endangered mammals, including Asian elephants, gibbons, gaur, slow lorises, and pileated gibbons, alongside elusive predators and unique amphibians. Most notable is the Aural horned frog (Xenophrys auralensis), a species found only in this mountain range, underscoring its global conservation value.

Trekking & Adventure Tourism

For travelers seeking challenge and discovery, Phnom Aural offers one of Cambodia’s most demanding and rewarding treks. Ascents typically take 2–3 days, beginning from nearby villages or along rugged logging roads that lead to the first campsite. From there, trekkers face a steep climb through bamboo forests, followed by dense evergreen forest trails leading toward the summit.

The journey usually unfolds as: 5–6 hours of uphill trekking from the logging road to Camp 1 and another ~5 hours of hiking through thick forest to the peak.

Many hikers choose to camp overnight along the way, breaking up the strenuous climb. The dry season (November–March) is the safest and most pleasant time for trekking, offering clearer skies, drier trails, and fewer insects. At the summit, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of the Cardamom wilderness, a panorama of unbroken forest stretching across Cambodia’s central highlands.

Wildlife & Birdwatching Highlights

For birdwatchers, Phnom Aural is a treasure trove. Endemic and rare species such as the Cambodian Laughingthrush, Chestnut-headed Partridge, Silver-breasted Broadbill, Great Hornbill, and Blue Pitta attract enthusiasts from around the world.

The forested slopes also offer chances to encounter wildlife in their natural habitat, from the calls of gibbons echoing at dawn to possible sightings of wild boar, leopard tracks, or even herds of elephants. Trekking here is as much about immersion in untamed wilderness as it is about reaching the summit.

Palm Sugar (Skor Thnot Kampong Speu): Kampong Speu is renowned for its palm sugar, derived from the sap of the palmyra palm (Borassus flabellifer), a multifunctional tree deeply embedded in Cambodian culture and rural livelihoods.

The sugar has earned both Geographical Indication (GI) status from Cambodia (2010) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) recognition from the European Union in 2019, ensuring quality, authenticity, and a unique regional identity.

Protected as “Skor Thnot Kampong Speu”, this sugar commands premium market status and safeguards against counterfeits. It is now exported to over 20 countries, including the EU, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and expanding to India and China. Demand continues to rise-up to 180 tons of organic palm sugar are projected for export in 2025, offering strong economic incentives for producers.

Harvest Season & Production

The palm sugar season runs from December to May; ideal weather allows for safe tree climbing and better juice quality. During this time, producers harvest sap, then boil and stir it over fire to turn into sugar.

What About Palm Wine?

Palm wine, known locally as Teuk Thnot Chhouk, is a traditional, mildly alcoholic drink made by fermenting fresh palm sap. Some villages in Kampong Speu offer tastings and demonstrations of this process.

In broader Cambodian cuisine, palm wine is distinguished from its globally less-reliable counterpart, homemade rice wine, which has been linked to safety concerns like methanol poisoning. Palm wine, particularly when produced under community or traditional methods, tends to be safer and lighter, yet tasting with responsible providers is always advised.
